The Laird effect…

This is a wee bit of a personal blog this week.

Often when we talk about canicross it’s concentrating on equipment, or training and support for our dogs.

We don’t often talk much about the human on the end of the bungee – and I don’t mean the shoes or waistbelt choice!

The Hardmoors is a fantastic trail race series run across North Yorkshire that allows dogs in almost all of their events. Some of us were out running in the Osmotherley 10k and Half Marathon ‘ish distances on Sunday.

I ran the 10k’ish with my best running buddies Laird and Freya, but I have to confess I was not at my best!

A week of not enough sleep, sciatica, a head cold and then to add insult to injury blooming cystitis had me seriously questioning my life choices.

And yet thanks to Mountain Fuel and the Laird Effect, we not only ran the race but actually ran up every single hill – not a normal occurrence for me!

The secret? Finding a balance that works for me…you could say that’s my life goal!

I’ve been experimenting with eating a lot less sugar and easily digested carbs for the last couple of months. It’s definitely helped with balancing my blood sugar levels, but made running or hill walking unbearable!

So the compromise of using carb/sugar just for events and in much smaller quantities was put to the test on Sunday.

Add in a combined 46kg of keen canine help and wow could I feel the difference.

I can’t wait for the Dalby Forest Canicross race on Sunday 28th October when I’m hoping to be feeling less ill and able to really enjoy flying up those hills.

If you haven’t booked yet there’s still some late entry tickets

Happy Running!
