When your dog goes deaf on the downhill *aaaaaargh*

“Stea-dy

Steady….

Steady!!!!

Laird!!! Oh my god we’re going to die!!!!”

*peep peep peep* whistle sounds

Finally the big beast slowed down and looked back at me with a face of innocence.

Beside him was a puzzled collie, who has been diligently slowing down when asked but was quite unable to stop the tank that is Laird on a mission.

Apparently our recent return to running (so many illnesses and accidents this year) plus a few days of hiking as a team in the Lakes last week has cemented the idea of working in harness for Laird.

Which is a good thing, kind of.

Rather than just pootling along beside Freya, or only getting keen on pulling when there were other dogs to chase, Laird has apparently decided that this is a “proper job” and requires dedicated effort.

But alongside the new improved focus has come less control. A LOT less control!

That’s okay, because he’s still a newbie canicrossing dog and we have more structured training sessions planned.

But I am so very glad that I shoved my whistle into my running vest on Saturday, and that it broke through the fog in Laird’s brain because I really can’t run that fast for very long yet!

What’s going on locally?
